Learning Well – The Health Foundation recently awarded a $1 million grant to support Learning Well Inc., which provides school-based health clinics in Marion County. Learning Well, in partnership with a variety of local health care organizations, provides these clinics to improve access to health care services for school-aged children. The Health Foundation was one of the original funders of the program, and this grant will go to support ongoing operations.
Childhood Obesity Campaign – With studies showing that 20 percent of Indiana’s children are overweight and nearly 40 percent are at risk of weight-related health problems, The Health Foundation is making the fight against childhood obesity a focus for its funding. To improve the public’s understanding of the problem of childhood obesity and educate parents and kids about where to go for help, The Health Foundation has hired Hetrick Communications Inc., an Indianapolis communications firm, to develop a media education campaign, which will debut in 2005.
Treatment Plus – The majority if intravenous drug users live outside the mainstream of health care and represent a significant health risk to themselves and the communities around them. For this reason, The Health Foundation has funded the Treatment Plus Health Project for the third consecutive year. The principle goal of the program is to provide access to a variety of health services through a mobile clinic to those in Marion County who use or abuse licit or illicit substances, primarily injecting drug users.
